NEWS FLASH - MEGA QUARRY APPLICATION FILED BY HIGHLANDS

The Highland Companies has filed an application for a 937 ha (2,300 acre) quarry to be dug up to 57.6 metres (189 feet) below the water table. There are three separate applications involved.

One is an application to the Ministry of Natural Resources for their aggregate license. One is an application to the Township of Melancthon for an Official Plan Amendment. One is an application to the Township of Melancthon for a Zoning Bylaw Amendment.

Each application will require letters of objection within very prescribed time frames and in very prescribed forms and NDACT will be providing all of that information for you shortly via emails, our website, facebook and newsletters for the objection process and dates of public meetings.

Public Review: Draft Sudbury Forest Management Plan – December 16, 2009 to February 12, 2010.

Do You:

  • Have an interest in natural resource management in the Sudbury Forest?

  • Want to know more about the proposed long-term management direction for the Sudbury Forest?

  • Want to take an active role in the planning process and development of the Sudbury Forest Management Plan (FMP)?

You have an opportunity to review and provide comments on the draft FMP which includes details on:

  • The long-term management direction of the forest (2010-2020);

  • The planned harvest, renewal and tending operations and access roads for the first five-year term 2010-2015;

  • The preferred areas of operation for the second five-year term 2015-2020;

  • The planned corridors for primary and branch roads for the ten-year term; and

  • Ministry of Natural Resources list of preliminary changes. 

The draft Sudbury FMP will be available for public review and comment from December 16 2009 to February 12 2010 at www.Ontario.ca/forestplans.  Comments must be received by Tim Lehman of the planning team at the ministry’s Sudbury District Office by February 14, 2010.
