MONDAY & WEDNESDAY NIGHT PADDLES

Monday and Wednesday night paddles begin June and continue until September. Lots of volunteers will be required to help with the extra night so please contact us to lend a hand.

 

WINTER MEETINGS

Monthly meetings are held every second Monday of the Month (except when that Monday is a holiday, then it is the third Monday of the month) beginning in October and wrapping up in May. All meetings are in the main lounge of the Southshore Community Centre from 19h00 - 21h30 (7:00-9:30 PM). Doors open at 18h30 (6:30PM). Guest Speakers, movies and slide shows, club information sessions, snacks and socializing are the norm. All meetings are open to the public.

TOPIC - The Nahanni River
Presented by: Wendy Grater from Black Feather Adventures

With canyons walls that shoot up over 900 meters above you to the mighty Virginia Falls, the Nahanni River offers a rare beauty that will stay with you for a lifetime. For over 30 years, Black Feather adventurers have paddled untamed rivers, hiked amidst glacier-capped mountains and sea kayaked through sparkling ice fjords. Wendy Grater from Black Feather will convince you to put this river on ‘your’ bucket list.

TOPIC - Mount Everest Base Camp from Beijing via Tibet and Katmandu 
Presented by: Irv Newman
Irv Newman has been pushing the limit on physically demanding sports over the last number of years. In 2004 he completed his first Iron Man race. After that he continued with aggressive activities by hiking in Asia. At Irv’s presentation, he will take us to the Base Camp at Mount Everest as well as through Bejing and Katmandu. Come see this exciting voyage.

TOPIC - Practical Bush Gear and folk songs and stories about Canada's north.
Presented by: Dave Hadfield

It doesn’t matter where you look, you just can’t find the one item that meets your specific needs or you maybe you don’t want to rob a bank to pay for that item. Dave Hadfield will share some of his innovative and practical ideas. He may even bring out the guitar and share some songs and stories about Canada’s North.

TOPIC - Paddling the Colorado river through the Grand Canyon.
Presented by: Brad Ellis

Brad Ellis has been paddling and leading trips for many years. Getting people interested in paddling and trips is one of his passions. In March of 2011, he fulfilled his dream of paddling the Colorado River. If you plan to run the Colorado or would like to see images of the Canyon from the bottom looking up, this one is for you.

TOPIC  - Banks Island

 

Presented by: Thomsen River Adventures,  John and Christine Yip.

John and Christine Yip met on a canoe trip in the early 1970’s and have been canoeing together ever since. In the 2980’s they were canoe trip leaders for the Federation of Ontario Naturalists (Ontario Nature). In 1981, they caught the Artic bug and their first Artic trip on the Coppermine River and have canoed a number of Artic rivers since. The Thomsen River on Banks Island was their first ‘high Artic’ experience.

The Christmas social will be held during our December Meeting.  Everyone is welcome including all the children to enjoy the festivities and dance social.
