Springwater Provincial Park Family Day Trip

Day trip on Sunday, Feb 3, 2008

We organized this trip last year and had such a great time, we wanted to repeat it. For us, it was even better this year, plus it was a little warmer.

At Springwater Provincial Park they have huts you can rent for the day. The fee is minimal, compared to the service of having unlimited firewood for the fire that is already stoked and consequently has the hut heated by 10am when we arrived. The hut also includes outlets that enabled us to hook up our crock pots for a warm lunch after playing outside in the snow.

Families trickled into the park and joined us when they arrived. A few people enjoyed the snowshoeing trails and made a few trails on their own. We went on hikes, or sleigh rides for the smaller children, to visit the animals a couple of times. Some of us were lucky enough to be able to see some of the animals being feed. We all played in the playground, where the 4 slides seem to be a lot faster than in the summer time, and entertained everyone from ages 2 to 72. We made 4 snowmen, one was small, one was big and another was eating at the table.

Potluck lunch was great for everyone. We were able to take all our wet gear off in our very warm hut and enjoy everyone’s contribution to the meal. The stupendous feast was able to feed all 16 adults and 10 children who joined us that day. Yes can you believe there were 26 of us in that little hut at the same time, no wonder it was warm.

Our trip ended by 2pm, but I am sure that all the children and adults had a nap that day!

Next year, yes we will definitely do this again, we will step it up a bit to include some organized games. Everyone’s ideas and suggestions are welcome.

Once again thank you for making our trip so memorable. Without everyone’s participation and contribution to this trip, it would not have been such a great success.
